The best way to get over a guy is to get under a new one!

By now, you've heard the news that former Caleb hopeful, Charlie Hunnam, has been plucked from relative obscurity to play in the major leagues as billionaire dungeon master, Christian Grey.

I have to admit I was completely blindsided by the pick since he wasn't one of the contenders we'd heard about in the months since we discovered there would be a 50 Shades of Grey movie.

Within minutes my Facebook, Twitter accounts, along with my phone were bombarded with messages to bring me the news and ask how I felt about it. Well, I can't say I was too upset (though I did play along). After all, E.L. James has a movie franchise and I'm still trying to get on a book shelf at my local Books-A-Million. To say we are in different leagues is an understatement.

Still, it sucks to have your fantasy cast member seduced from the dark side into the grey area (terrible pun).

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hunnam at the LoneStar Motorcycle Rally in Galveston, last year. I gifted him with copies of the Dark Duet and he gifted me with his warm body pressed against me while we took a photo. His exact words before we snapped the picture: "Can I hold you?"

My Reaction!

I wish Mr. Hunnam and the incomparable E.L. James the best. I hope the movie does what the books have done: Open the door to the rest of us. Captive in the Dark was in the works long before I knew of 50, but I know that without him, many readers may not have discovered Caleb.

However, I'm not the type to pine away after a man who isn't mine anymore. It was fun, Charlie, but I have to get over you.

Help me crown a new Caleb and win a free paperback copy of Epilogue (Book 3, The Dark Duet)!

Paul Walker

I find him sexy, but does he have the acting chops?

Ryan Gosling

Sexy, talented, has done indie...I drooool

Zac Efron

He's older now and sexy as all hell

Chris Pine

Too manly or is his face just boyish enough?

Drew Van Acker

Relatively unknown and dripping sex appeal

Alex Pettyfer

He might be taken, but mmm!

Jensen Ackles

He's DEFINITELY taken (I think)

So, who's YOUR new Caleb?

  1. ever since I started reading The Dark Duet, I always imagined Charlie Hunnam as my Caleb, now that he is taken to be Christian Grey... it is really kind of hard to picture anyone else to be my Caleb! *sigh

  4. OMG! That gif reaction is totally accurate! I would have melted!!!
I wonder what you think of EL James and FSOG, as a fellow writer and as a reader yourself...I haven´t read the books, I actually refuse to, I´ve read snippets online and skimmed through a few pages with a friend of mine who had it, and Oh.MY.GOD! It is awful, there´s no other way to put it, badly written, childish, repetitive, and the sex scenes are just ridiculous! You cannot, under any circumstances, put yourself in the same level with this woman, The Dark Duet series is simply BRILLIANT, it is brilliantly written, has an incredible plot, an actual plot, and character development, you see Livvie and Caleb transform before your eyes. Really, Seduced just blew me away, you seem to have an understanding and knowledge of the topics and situations you adress, and you knew what you wanted for these characters and how though it was going to get them there. So please, even if you´re thankful to her for opening that door, I´m sure writers such as you would have gotten that door opened anyway, why? Because you are TALENTED! Something I don´t think she is.
I´m sorry for ranting, but I feel passionately about your books and can´t bear to see them even mentioned in the same category as FSOG.
And I think Charlie should still be your Caleb, I know he´s mine, even if he´s taken this role(we´ll see how that works out for him; honestly, I think he´s wasting his time, effort and talent in a movie like this)

Oh, btw, CANNOT wait to read what you have in store for agent Reed!!!! See? That was another thing with your books, the supporting characters actually made you want to get to know them, their story, no matter how brief, was intriguing, and I´m thrilled you decided to develop him further!

Anyway, enough! I actually just wanted to say how much I love your books and that I think you´re an immensely talented and creative person! :)

    1. Thank you for complimenting my talent and the Dark Duet. As to the rest, I'm not in the habit of talking about other writers. Some things are just lost to you when you begin to think of others as colleagues.

I remain hopeful that some day Caleb and Livvie will be discovered by someone who can do something with them. I dream big. :)

  6. I would have to say Alex. He's got just enough boyishness to lead me blindly into anything. Meanwhile, he's got a few hard edges that scream "this guy is bad news" except given the exploding ovaries, I probably wouldn't get that far if I was Livvie.

  7. I think Chris Pine or even Zac Efron and my third choice would be Drew Van Acker..

  8. No Chris Hemsworth?

I know he is quite busy these days but it looks like he likes to be busy with multiple movies at once.

None of the actors above look like they could pull off dark Caleb. After the life he's lived, I imagine Caleb looking harder. Chris Hemsworth can look downright panty dropping delectable... but have you seen him look serious or pissed off? He can look dark and dangerous in my opinion. And he definitely has the acting chops too.

So, its Chris Hemsworth for me :D

Would love to see your books on the big screen... and not being a typical romance, I think it would appeal to a greater audience... men included. It has action, suspense, violence, sex and romance.

    What more do you need!

    1. ABS-o-freaking-lutely. (Intentional emphasis on the abs.) I posted the same thing on CJ's Facebook page today. Never would've considered him rough enough to be Caleb material until I started seeing trailers for Rush. Tall, blonde, blue eyes, blood-spattered ... oh my.

    2. He's crazy hot! However, he's also crazy popular. I fear I'd just find myself here again. LOL Of course, the same can certainly be said for Ryan Gosling, Jensen Ackles, and possibly Paul Walker.

  9. How about Cam Gagandet (James in twilight). He can act a real bad boy!

  10. C.J. Roberts, amo tus libros <3 son los mejores que he leído. De verdad, es el más favorito de todos hahahaha. AMO A CALEB, Hazlo real pls!

  11. From your list-- I think Zac Efron could pull it off--but how about Norman Reedus? He can so play the eyes in his acting and would be a surprise

  12. I laughed out loud at this post. Love you CJ! Paul Walker is good I think. He can do those serious, angry eyes too!

  13. Hell, it's a shame that Mr. Hunnam is no longer available. He was definitely what imagined. But since it is not available, I think the most appropriate is Alex Pettyfer. Maybe it's too young, but his body and golden hair, is what it takes to be captivated. I hope I have helped =)

  14. My ideal Caleb would be Tom Hardy. He has an incredible ability to morph his body and change his voice so dramatically to adapt to the role he is playing. He's no stranger to playing "darker" roles. He is very good at conveying the characters dark side yet still displaying that inner hidden tenderness as well. In addition to his phenomenal acting skills he is gorgeous as well! Complete package.

  15. So many great picks, Tom Hardy is a surprise but that voice and his command of darker roles...he might just have my vote.

    1. Tom Hardy is sexy as sin! I've avoided him for two reasons: 1) He's been mentioned many times by other book enthusiasts.

2)I always thought he was a little too big and masculine to ever believe he was boyish or angelic. If I'd been Livvie at the bus stop and Tom Hardy was headed my way, I might be scared. LOL

  16. You are one classy lady! I guess for me it's Paul Walker as far as looks go. I suppose I'm lucky in that when I read the books I wasn't even considering anyone in real life, it wasn't until I finished that I heard that Charlie had been in mind. I LOVE that you gave him the books and got a pic! You rock!

  22. Henry Cavill + hair bleach = My new Caleb.

  23. Young Travis Fimmel!!! Even if he's a bit old now, I still think he can pull off Caleb with the help of a good makeup artist

  24. I have to go with Chris Pine on this one. He just has a scruffy potential to darkness......*sighs*

  25. I think Micheal Pitts from Boardwalk empire would be a great Caleb!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Alex O'Loughlin he's very yummy, and I can easily see him doing those things to kitten. I know he's not blonde enough, but dye it. PLEASE!! He has the derogatory looks as well, perfect. Xx

  27. I might cry. Seriously. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm SO excited to see Charlie in a dom roll like this but GAH he's supposed to be Caleb! He IS CALEB!

Lucky little lady you are CJ. I woulda made an ass outa myself near him FOR SURE.

Wiiith that being said...I guess I'd have to go with Paul Walker. He's so sexy, and he can play the angry roll pretty well. I just would need him to beef up a liiiitle bit. Caleb seems so masculine to me and Paul is so pretty! lol

  28. CJ, these books were absolutely wonderful. You really took me to places I didn't expect, and I loved the journey. Thanks so much for that.

I'd love Alexander Skarsgard as him, it's who I saw when I read. <3

  29. From the moment I started reading the books I envisioned Paul Walker as Caleb. And in my opinion he's a great actor. I love Charlie Hunnam, too (can't wait to see him portray Mr. Grey) but Paul Walker was always in my head while reading. :) xx

  30. I have entered!!! I think out of these guys then Alex Pettyfer would make a good Caleb. But Charlie was definately who I had in mind too lol

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love me some shirtless Ryan Gosling or Zac Efron but not 100% sure if Zac Efron can/could pull it off.

Mosy Def say Ryan Gosling could pull it off

    ReplyDelete
  32. This is hard coz I always thought Paul Walker was the perfect Caleb, buuuuuut I don't think he's that great of an actor. Don't hit me! lol! So, I'm going to have to go with Zac Efron. He's not only pretty enough, but he's grown into his hotness. Aaaaand he's a great dramatic actor. Which is what really counts, imo. If someone can pull off Caleb, it won't matter how hot or how ugly they are, the attitude alone will make every girl ovulate on the spot. ;)

  33. From the list up there I would say Paul Walker.... but, how about Devin Paisley!! or maybe Armie Hammer though

    ReplyDelete
  34. My vote is for Drew Van Acker...YUM!

  35. Paul Walker or Zac Efron are my votes :)

  36. Charlie Hunnam has always been my Caleb while Matt Bomer has always been my ideal Christian Grey. Needless to say when the casting was announced, I was shocked and in denial (and I still am lol ...it is a tough "break-up"). If only Jason Mamoa can have softer features and be blond he'd be perfect. For now, I am voting Ryan Gosling or Alex Pettyfer

  37. Chris Hemsworth if we can't have Charlie....just saying :)

  38. OK, I don't usually comment on blogs but reading the 50 Shades reference makes me want to. Yes, they led me to your books, but yours are sooooo much better (stylistically and story-wise) than E.L. James's bestseller. I love re-reading your duet (unlike 50 Shades) and would love to see your stories on screen. Having said that, for me Caleb was always more like Alexander Skarsgard. Even though he is a bit too old, he's got the depth and ability to play cruelty as well as warmth and vulnerability, well, and he's knock-out gorgeous.
